If you’re reading this blog it means you love making and wearing bead jewelry and it means you know how to use a computer and read about your favorite hobby :-)! I know a few professional bead jewelry artists (meaning it is one of their main sources of income) and they all complain about the complexity of running the “business” end of their bead jewelry business. Most of them don’t use computers, but I started to wonder if there were any serious software programs for the computer that could help bead jewelry artists run their businesses.

There are, of course, plenty of online bead jewelry tools and designers that I’ve featured before, but I haven’t spent much time investigating other types of programs that could help with the business side of selling my jewelry.

The definite “queen” of the Jewelry Business Software market is Jewelry Design Manager by Bejeweled Software company. There are three versions of their famous software, each with more features. There is the Standard version which includes all sorts of basic features such as inventory tracking, vendor contacts and sales transactions. There is the Pro version which includes everything from the Standard version but also has some advanced inventory tracking and invoicing ability. And once you’ve hit the “big” leagues you can go with the Deluxe version which includes everything in the other two version as well as the ability to link into Quickbooks for all your business accounting, and includes a lot of extra invoicing and printing features. I’m a long way off from having the kind of business that warrants even the Standard version, but its good to know that there is affordable software available that can help. I’m especially intrigued by the ability to figure out cost per designed jewelry piece! There is an online tour and plenty of screenshots at their website if you’re interested.

You can also check out Blue Symphony’s Jewelry Insight software package. It’s a bead jewelry inventory management software program that allows you to track your beads, figure out costs, create reports and generally organize and run your own bead jewelry business. This software doesn’t seem to have a bit market share right now but it does seem to be gaining some fans and it is even less expensive than the Standard version of Jewelry Design Manager.

And though this is way beyond the realm of simple bead jewelry, there are actually software programs that allow you design your own jewelry pieces in 3D right on your PC. One of those types of sofware is ArtCam JewelSmith and it is definitely geared more for the professional jewelry designer and artist.
