Amar Ujala, India’s fourth largest daily newspaper, has selected the Oracle E-Business Suite (Oracle Applications) for enhanced enterprise resource planning. Amar Ujala chose Oracle Applications over other competitive ERP offerings because of Oracle’s reputation as a well-established solutions provider, with an integrated suite of applications that is easy to use and easily integrated with other applications. The newspaper group has chosen to implement Oracle Applications across its operations in 16 Indian cities. In addition, Amar Ujala has also purchased Oracle's Online DBA service, which is a part of Oracle's On Demand service offering, to simplify its IT management, improve business results and lower costs.
Fast expanding publication houses such as Amar Ujala need optimal inventory utilization and prudent financial management, which are key to maximising available working capital for faster growth. The company chose Oracle Applications to address issues related to achieving reductions in inventory holding cost, effective financial management and faster rollout of operations in new locations.
“We were looking for a solution that will enable us to integrate different business operations thereby enabling us to better our enterprise resource planning,” said Atul Maheshwari, managing director, Amar Ujala Publications Ltd. “By implementing the Oracle E-Business Suite, we will be able to achieve better control over our overall operation and reduce costs.”
“The Oracle Applications implementation will enable Amar Ujala to integrate all business processes, permitting them to handle their business much more effectively,” said Suraj Pai, senior director, Service Industries, Oracle India Pvt Ltd. “More and more Indian media houses are choosing packaged business applications that incorporate global best practices in order to stay ahead of their competition and streamline operations.”
Prior to implementing the Oracle E-Business Suite, the various operations units of Amar Ujala were using different applications for key processes, including procurement, payroll and accounting. This proved increasingly difficult to manage as the consolidation of information from the disparate systems required extra time and effort and did not always enable timely and meaningful analysis for effective decision-making.
Amar Ujala is implementing key modules of the Oracle E-Business Suite to improve its financial management, purchasing, inventory management, order management and payroll for more effective operations.
Amar Ujala will be able to gain the following benefits from the Oracle implementation –
-Procurement: Automating purchasing processes by improving purchasing productivity and efficiency.
-Inventory Reduction: Oracle E-Business Suite will allow the company to take control of inventory management problems while maximizing delivery performance.
-Financial Management: Will allow faster closure of books and provide information to stakeholders in a time bound fashion.
-Information Access and Control: Oracle E-Business Suite will make access easier to anyone with the right authorization.
-Faster rollout of new print locations: Amar Ujala is rolling out new printing locations rapidly. With the help of Oracle Applications, these rollouts are better monitored and efficiently controlled.
